Ex-Libyan oil minister dies in Vienna

VIENNA (AFP) - Former Libyan oil minister Shukri Ghanem died Sunday in exile in Vienna, an Austrian foreign ministry spokesman said, confirming an APA news agency report.

Ghanem, 69, who defected from Moamer Kadhafi's regime in May 2011, was found dead in his apartment, having apparently suffered from a heart attack.

Ghanem, who served as Libya's oil minister from 2006 to 2011, had fled to Vienna after his defection.

The funeral may be held in Libya, APA said, citing Islam expert Amer al-Bayati, who in turn quoted Ghanem's family.
