Court rules on A-G's application on Woyome Feb. 29

A Commercial Court in Accra has set February 29 to rule on an application to amend reliefs being sought by the Attorney General in the controversial 51 million cedis judgment debt scandal.

The Attorney-General in the civil suit is challenging the payment of the money to Alfred Woyome.

The state is also seeking to have the statement of claim as well as the writ seeking reliefs amended.

The amended motion filed by dismissed Attorney-General, Martin Amidu, insists Mr. Woyome did not have a contract with the state and only managed to secure the judgment debt through fraudulent misrepresentations.

Principal State Attorney Cecil Adadevoh said the contract involved a foreign firm so the agreement should have been given a parliamentary approval. He is therefore praying the court to consider the contract null and void.

The state is also requesting the court to set aside the judgement leading to the award of the GH¢51 million judgement debt for the whole case to be reopened.

Lawyers for Alfred Woyome represented by Madam Dora Quaye Nortey opposed the application insisting that being a mutual consent judgement, the state cannot on its own seek to have it changed.
