Suspected armed robbers on Saturday night shot and wounded Corporal Chere N. Salia who was on duty with his colleagues at a police barrier at the Agona Swedru-Oda.

A spokesperson for the Swedru District Police Command told the GNA on Sunday that the robbers shot the policeman after they had robbed some internet cafes.

They took away huge sums of money and laptops.

The police spokesperson said when the taxi in which the robbers were got to a police barrier, they were stopped and one of the robbers shot the policeman who was questioning them.

Corporal Salia was taken to the Agona Swedru Government Hospital but referred to the Police Hospital in Accra.

The police have arrested Michael Arhin, 20, who was driving the taxi in which the robbers were.

The Spokesperson said the driver was arrested when some of the suspected stolen items were found on the taxi.
