MICHAEL MAWULI Atido, a 23 year old resident of Nungua near Accra has been arrested by the Sakumono District Police Command for allegedly raping and robbing a certain Forzia at knife point at the Sakumono Village.
The suspect who was recently released after serving a year in jail at the Nsawam Medium Prison for a similar offence was said be unemployed.
Superintendent Alex C. Wowolo, the District Commander told DAILY GUIDE that somewhere in 2009, the suspect was arrested for attempted rape and robbery at Sakumono Estate where he was arraigned and sentenced to 12 months in prison.
He continued that the suspect after serving his sentence was again arrested on August 26 at about 2:00pm for the same offence.
This was after he was pursued by an angry mob that got wind of the rape and robbery following screams from the victim at an uncompleted building.
The victim’s screams attracted neighbors who rushed to the scene to finds her almost naked with the suspect wielding a knife and ordering her to conform to his orders, he said.
Luck however eluded him as he was arrested after a hot chase by the mob. He was brought to the Sakumono Police Station where he was rearrested and detained.
Superintendent Wowolo noted that a search conducted on him by the police revealed a Nokia mobile phone and GH¢270 which he reportedly stole from his victim after raping her.
He was said to have admitted the crime and would be arraigned before court after investigations.
