Rawlings greets Muslims on Eid-ul-Fitr

Accra, – Former President Jerry John Rawlings and his wife, Nana Konadu, on Wednesday congratulated the Muslim community for dedicating themselves to a month-long period of fasting culminating in the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

A statement signed by the former first couple said the fasting period accorded individuals the opportunity to renew their spiritual strength and pray for the positive good of mankind.

“In Ghana we are faced with major socio-economic and socio-political problems that require every Ghanaian to put his energies together to resolve,” the statement said.

“As we conclude the fasting period and offer the traditional concluding prayer we enjoin all Muslims to offer prayers for the good of our dear country, pray for Allah’s blessing so we can confront the challenges that Ghana faces and seek direction for a positive future,” the Rawlingses added.

They called for a moment of prayer for the peoples of all countries who are facing severe challenges, saying “let us pray for peace, stability, economic and political sustenance for these countries”.

The Rawlingses said once Eid-ul-Fitr is over “let us sustain the strong prayers for our dear country and the entire world so we can do away with the discord that threatens to engulf us”.
