Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia, Dr. Addo Kufuor has descended heavily on persons that have sternly opposed the free Senior High School (SHS) policy promised by Nana Akufo Addo, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), describing them as 'lazy people.'
He stated emphatically that the free SHS policy was attainable, stressing that anybody that opposes the policy doesn't have the welfare of Ghanaians at heart.
The former Defence Minister under the previous NPP administration, disclosed this while addressing an enthusiastic crowd during Ash FM's People's Forum at Boaman in the Effigya Kwabre Constituency of the Ashanti region.
Ghana, he said, should bank its hopes on its human resources rather than natural resources.
Dr. Kufuor said in order for Ghana to properly develop its human resource, the citizenry, notably the youth, who would manage the affairs of the country in future, must be educated to improve their knowledge.
He stated that Nana Akufo Addo's vision of making SHS free to help children from wealthy and poor homes was a step in the right direction.
Dr. Kufuor described opponents of the free SHS policy as lazy people, charging Ghanaians to rally behind Nana Akufo Addo to move Ghana forward.
With the implementation of the free SHS policy, he said, Ghana would soon refine its natural resources such as gold, bauxite, manganese among others in the country before exporting them for foreign exchange.
He said the country has since independence exported its natural resources in the raw state for meager fee, stating that the time has come for the country to stop the trend.
Dr. Kufuor said Ghana needed a visionary president of Nana Akufo Addo's caliber to introduce pragmatic programmes and policies to enable the country rub shoulders with the advanced countries of the world.
He insisted that Ghana would not accrue benefits from the recent oil find in the country if the large section of the population were illiterate.
The ex-Manhyia MP stated that Ghanaians were wallowing in poverty due to bad leadership of the NDC administration.
He charged the electorate to vote massively for Nana Akufo Addo during the elections, pointing out that the NPP leader was an astute politician who would fix Ghana's economy to the delight of all.
Dr. Kufuor bemoaned the high rate of corruption among government officials which he said was worsening the plight of the masses, stating that the next NPP administration would address the problems.
He noted that numerous social intervention programmes introduced by the NPP administration like NYEP, NHIS, School Feeding Programme, among others, were on the brink of collapse due to mismanagement by the ruling NDC government.
Organized by Ash FM in Kumasi, the 'People's Forum' provides leading politicians with the opportunity to share their views on key national issues.
The programme, which has been organized in several areas in the Ashanti region, has helped to enlighten more people since its inception.
