A political scientist at the University of Ghana, Dr. Seidu Alidu has described the upcoming Parliamentary Appointments Committee vetting of Vice President nominee, Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur as a make or break affair.
President Mahama nominated the former Bank of Ghana boss among a list that consisted of NDC big shots including Victor Smith, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, Dr.Kwesi Botchwey, Kwesi Ahwoi, Hanna Tetteh among others.
In an interview with Joy News, the Political Scientist said the public vetting would give the Vice-President designate a platform to showcase his leadership qualities to Ghanaians who knew little about him as well as to prove wrong those who doubt his abilities.
According to Dr. Alidu, Amissah-Arthur's situation is a peculiar one. Unlike other Vice-Presidents in the Fourth Republic, Amissah-Arthur has not had the opportunity to campaign in any election hence Dr. Alidu urged him to seize the opportunity to prove his skeptics that he is the right man for the position.
The political scientist stated that Veep designate must be ready to answer questions outside his comfort zone of economics. According to Dr Alidu, “Ghanaians would like to know everything about him because of that particular port folio. Every questions that would test his abilities to governed as a Vice-President must be posed to him; the way he receives those question would demonstrate the type of Vice-President that he would be”.
There are concerns that some questions to be posed to Amissah-Arthur might ridicule the person of the Vice-Presidential designate.
However, according to Dr. Alidu, Ghanaians are discerning to know whether questions posed to Ammisah-Arthur are meant to ridicule him or test his abilities.
