Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner was attacked in an early-morning bar brawl in Thailand that left one man in a serious condition.

The Mission: Impossible 4 star was drinking with friends in a Phuket Town venue yesterday when violence broke out after hours at around 4.30am.

One of the men in Jeremy's party, Vorasit Issar - the general manager of the luxurious Sri Panwa Resort - was seriously wounded after getting slashed in the neck with a rotor axe.

Vorasit was also stabbed in the stomach with a knife, TMZ reports.

According to Thai authorities Renner - who only suffered minor injuries - and his party were bar hopping and ended up at Rachada pub in Phoonpol, where the bloody melee occurred.

Vorasit is said to have dropped a glass on the floor, which provoked a heated row with the bar staff.

Six men - who worked at the bar and the Canara restaurant next door  - then allegedly started attacking Renner and Issar. Metal pipes, a wooden club and a table leg were other weapons used in the attack. In all, around 20 people were involved.

The six men were arrested. According to The Phuket News Jarungsak Sawangkij, 29, Suriya Kraipian, 33, Suchart Palar, 26, Nareubate Tednok, 18, Natthawut Kongplub, 19, and Wasan Poethong, 20, are set to be charged with the attempted murder of Vorasit.

The also stand accused of assaulting Vorasit's chauffeur, 30-year-old Noppadon Preechawai, who was slashed in the face with an axe according to the publication.

Both were rushed to Bangkok Hospital Phuket and are said to be in stable condition. When arrested, all six accused were wearing trainers covered in blood.

The six accused appeared at a police press conference earlier today after police spent the night tracking them down.

According to the Phuket News, Suchart admitted using a pocket knife to stab Vorasit while Nareubate admitted that he used a homemade axe to hack at Vorasit's back twice.

The six men also admitted to attacking Vorasit's group with metal pipes, a wooden club and a table leg.

Police found the rotor axe stashed under a sofa in a karaoke room of the Rachada pub.

The Rachada pub has now been closed for 60 days because the incident happened after official closing hours for Phuket Town.

The Hurt Locker star Renner is currently starring alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible -  Ghost Protocol.
