Despite being called into Capello’s squad on 12 occasions, Robinson was an unused substitute nine times and uninvolved in the three other games before withdrawing from the squad, and announcing his retirement, prior to a friendly against Hungary.
Robinson, now 32, said at the time; “As a professional who wants to play every time I have the chance, I don’t see myself as a No 3 or 4 keeper and find that role frustrating.”
Although Robinson has not been contacted by Pearce or the Football Association following Capello’s departure to gauge his intentions, it is understood that the former Leeds and Tottenham keeper would consider his position should an approach be made.
