FULL TIME at Stamford Bridge and Drogba's goal enough to secure victory but it's a disappointing scoreline given that Stoke were down to 10 men for 65 minutes.
FULL TIME at Villa Park and Weimann is the hero with his last-gasp winner. Villa fans' boos turn to cheers and McLeish is no longer a villain!
GOAL!!!!!!! Aston Villa have scored in injury time it's bundled over the
line by Andreas Weimann.
FULL TIME and Blackburn have taken a crucial win against Wolves. Huge boos around the ground as the final whistle is blown.
90+ Four added minutes for Liverpool to try and snatch an equaliser.
89 mins: Mata free-kick curled around the wall goes past the goalkeeper but it's come off the post! Chelsea lead 10-man Stoke 1-0.
85 mins Fulham hold off an effort from Carlos Cuellar whose strike goes just wide. Still 0-0 at Villa Park.
83 mins: Bad news for Sunderland as Bendtner is stretchered off at the Stadium of Light after a clash with Martin Skrtel.
Teams for Everton v Spurs:
Everton: Howard, Neville, Heitinga, Distin, Baines, Coleman, Osman,
Fellaini, Drenthe, Cahill, Jelavic.
Subs: Mucha, Hibbert, Jagielka, Stracqualursi, Gueye, Rodwell,
Anichebe.
Tottenham: Friedel, Walker, Kaboul, King, Assou-Ekotto, Bale, Sandro,
Parker, Modric, Defoe, Adebayor.
Subs: Cudicini, Van der Vaart, Saha, Kranjcar, Rose, Livermore, Nelsen.
77 mins ambitious from Stoke, 50-yard shot but it's gone wide of Cech's goal. At the Stadium of Light Henderson has been replaced by Downing.
75 mins further to the fact that Drogba has scored his 100th Premier League goal this afternoon he is the first African player to do so. Congratulations to him...and what a crucial goal it may prove to be. If it remains 1-0 then Drogba has saved Chelsea from being hugely red-faced this afternoon.
70 mins boos at Villa Park as Charles N'Zogbia is taken off for Andreas Weiman. Damien Duff looking dangerous for Fulham but it remains goalless for now.
68 mins: confirmed Steven Gerrard and Andy Carroll on for Craig Bellamy and Charlie Adam
GOAL!!!!! Drogba has broken the deadlock and Chelsea have taken the lead.
Outstanding goal off a reverse pass from the Ivory Coast international and
that's his 100th goal for Chelsea.
67 mins free-kick from Drogba from 30 yards out and yet again Begovic is the hero, what an awesome save from him. Chelsea just cannot score for love nor money.
Over at the Stadium of Light it looks like Gerrard and Carroll are preparing to come on.
GOAL!!!!!! Problems mounting for Wolves. Ball given away cheaply by the
homeside and Hoilett's scored his second of the afternoon and it's a
smashing effort...
66 mins Latest from Stamford Bridge...it's all Chelsea but they're making this too easy for Stoke.
60 mins John Terry shoots from 25 yards out and it wasn't a bad effort to be fair YET it remain 0-0 at Stamford Bridge and need I remind you that Stoke have been down to 10-men since the 25th minute.
I say unlucky for Reina as Fraizer Campbell's shot hit the Spaniard's back as he dives for a save...the ball then came out to Bendtner who made no mistake.
GOAL!!!!!!! Sunderland fans erupt after 56 minutes at the Stadium of Light
and its Nicklas Bendtner. Extremely unlucky for Peper Reina but the homeside
were always looking the most likely to take the lead.
59 mins Upson and Palacios are on for Stoke, and how Chelsea aren't ahead is beyond me...Stoke apparently looking very comfortable. Dear oh dear...what do Chelsea have to do?
57 mins Shay Given let off again as no sooner does Dempsey squander a chance but Duff does the same. Scrappy from Villa's backline and wasteful from Fulham.
55 mins Great chance gone to waste for Fulham, Dempsey's missed a sitter apparently...and from what we've been hearing about a lack of opportunity at Villa Park that may well come back to haunt him in 40 minutes time.
Half-time changes so far...Fulham have replaced Murphy with Diarra; the cut was just below the eye and there is a suspected concussion for Murphy.
Chelsea have also made another change with David Luiz on for Branislav Ivanovic.
And it's all re-started...slightly delayed at Stamford Bridge, Villa Park and Stadium of Light but bang on time at Molineux
4:00 Good news/bad news for Wolves/Blackburn fans...take it how you wish. Wolves have conceded in their last 25 Premier League matches...on the plus side...Blackburn haven't had a clean sheet for 30 games. Still think that match has draw written all over it. Elsewhere if Chelsea can't pull something off against 10-man Stoke then there really is no hope, while it's goalless at the Stadium of Light it seems Sunderland have the edge and are the most likely to score while Villa and Fulham both seem apprehensive to make any effort to score. Let's see how things pan out in the second halves.
Think the claim that there was blood everywhere at Villa Park may have been a slight exaggeration...here's Danny Murphy after an encounter with Stephen Ireland's elbow.
So at half-time there's been just one goal in the four matches this afternoon...over in the Bundesliga however Bayern Munich aren't short of goals, they're 7-0 up on Hoffenheim after 58 minutes!
46 mins: Sunderland goalkeeper Mignolet called into action as Charlie Adam smashes a free-kick in his direction but it flies inches over the bar. Half-time 0-0
GOAL!!!!! Blackburn have gone ahead after 43 minutes through Junior
Hoilett. Pedersen's throw is flicked on by Wolves and it falls straight to
Hoilett on the penalty spot and he smashes it into the back of the net.
42 mins Ivanovic in another miss for Chelsea...at least they're getting closer that effort's come off the post. Di Matteo changing things up and Mata is on for Miereles
Fuller sent off at Stamford Bridge for stamping Ivanovic
39 mins: well there's me expecting a flurry of goals from these four matches but we're approaching the break and nothing....a red card at Stamford Bridge the only excitement. Besides the blood shed I'm not sure I've even mentioned Villa v Fulham....which speaks volumes about the levels of entertainment at Villa Park.
36 mins: Another opportunity for Chelsea, simple header for Drogba but he misses it completely...the follow up goes to Kalou who makes just as bad a hash of it. Still goalless and Stoke will be desperate to get to the break now. If you're just joining us they are down to 10 men with Fuller sent off for stamping.
33 mins: Cahill header hits the bar, Stoke have yet another lucky escape and latest news suggests Fernando Torres is warming up and readying himself for some action.
32 mins: Still goalless between Wolves and Blackburn but the homeside's defence is holding up well so far. Liverpool still looking very sleepy against Sunderland, can't help but think Martin O'Neill's side are going to snatch the lead soon.
28 mins: blood shed at Villa Park, Danny Murphy is caught by the elbow of Stephen Ireland...doesn't appear deliberate but according to SkySports there's blood EVERYWHERE
Here's Joey Barton's take on this afternoon's result against Bolton:
25 mins: RED CARD Andre Marriner's had his red card out and it's Ricardo Fuller that's gone for stamping on Ivanovic. Or Red-card-o Fuller as he is now being called on Twitter
23 mins first show of a threat from Liverpool as Adam's corner fires across the box but Bridge does just enough to keep it away from Suarez.
Statement from the FA following the disallowed goal in Bolton's tie with QPR:
Following last week’s meeting of IFAB (International Football Association
Board) The FA would like to reiterate our strong desire to see Goal Line
Technology introduced as soon as possible.
The FA has been a leading proponent of Goal Line Technology for many years. We will continue to press for its introduction once further independent testing is complete later this year, so that anyone wishing to introduce the technology is able to do so at the earliest possible opportunity. "
15 mins: Sunderland looking comfortable against Liverpool who are struggling defensively. Pepe Reina called on a couple of times but nothing too threatening just yet. 0-0 at the Stadium of Light. Where's the first goal of afternoon going to come from? From what I'm hearing so far I can't help but think it will be Chelsea.
12 mins: Asmir Begovic pulling out some heroic saves at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea are looking rampant. Goalless so far in all four matches.
Glen Johnson still not fit for Liverpool but willing his side on nonetheless:
8 mins: If you're just tuning in and wondering why there's so much talk of goal-line technology this afternoon it's because of this disallowed goal from Clinton Hill in QPR's away tie with Bolton:
4 mins: news from Stamford Bridge suggests that Stoke are lucky not to be two goals behind already. It's all Chelsea at the moment, they're looking very lively.
3:00 and we're up and running around the grounds
Telegraph Sport's Luke Edwards agreeing with Jonathan Liew's prediction of a
draw at the Stadium of Light:
Chris Wilson registering his predictions for the afternoon: "Hello
Emily. Can't see Chelsea winning against Stoke, Di Matteo isn't going to
magically turn things around, a draw there. Sunderland to draw with
Liverpool.Agreeing with Jonathan and you, Fulham are on fire, expect them to
beat Villa.Wolves looking shocking at the moment, sneaky Blackburn 1-0
perhaps?"
Plenty of people calling for goal-line technology to be brought into the
Premier League, here's what Stan Collymore's saying
2:47 Topic of goal-lie technology is going to rear its ugly head after today's match between Bolton and QPR. How long before it's introduced to the Premier League if at all, email me your thoughts.
2:45 almost time for kick-off so here's a rundown of Jonathan Liew's
predictions this afternoon:
Chelsea 1 Stoke City 0
Sunderland 1 Liverpool 1
Aston Villa 1 Fulham 3
Wolves 2 Blackburn 2
Agree with him? I'll back his last two but I think Chelsea will win but
concede; 2-1 and I think Liverpool will snatch victory at the Stadium of
Light with the same scoreline.
2:41 Full-time at the Reebok Stadium and it's finished 2-1 in Bolton's favour. QPR players and Mark Hughes no doubt furious over Clint Hill's disallowed goal.
2:40 Last but by no means least this afternoon, Wolves are entertaining
Blackburn. It's a huge fixture for both sides who are level on points in
18th and 17th place respectively and desperate for a win to haul them away
from the drop zone. Wolves have much to put right following a 5-0 mauling by
Fulham last weekend and this afternoon welcome back Sebastien Bassong,
Steven Fletcher and possibly captain Roger Johnson (disciplined on Monday
for being in an unfit condition to train.
Steve Kean will be relieved to have Gael Givet and Jason Lowe back in his
defence options with both returning from suspension.
Here's Jonathan Liew's outlook on this crunch match: "Surely,
surely, Wolves cannot be as bad as they were against Fulham last week, where
even a 5-0 scoreline carried the faint whiff of flattery. Trouble has
continued to stalk them, with Roger Johnson disciplined during the week for
turning up at training a little over-refreshed. Manager Terry Connor has
tried to instil a siege mentality at Molineux as they fight for survival,
but no amount of team bonding can make up for the fact that they simply look
incapable of defending. Yakubu could well enjoy a lucrative afternoon, but
by the same token so could Steven Fletcher at the other end. Either way,
it's hard to see this one ending goalless."
Prediction: Wolves 2 Blackburn 2
2:36 QPR desperate for an equaliser now, they trail Bolton 2-1 deep into injury-time.
2:35 Third fixture this afternoon sees Fulham travel to Aston Villa with the homeside looking for their first win at Villa Park since December. Alex McLeish will no doubt be delighted he has no fresh injury concerns while Aaron Hughes is a doubt for Fulham. Adding to Martin Jol's injury concerns are Stephen Kelly (quad) and Zdenek Grygera.
Fulham are chasing Liverpool for seventh place while Villa sit eight points
above the drop zone. While a win will do wonders for McLeish's relationship
with the fans, Jonathan Liew is backing Fulham to secure their fourth
consecutive win with a 3-1 scoreline.
He also brings you this stat...Villa have gone seven games without a win at
home. They have not gone eight without a win since 1921.
2:31 confirmed that John Terry returns to captain Chelsea this afternoon...Drogba, Lampard and Cole also in the starting lineup. Torres and Mata on the bench.
Full line-ups:
Chelsea: Cech, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Cole, Ramires, Mikel, Lampard,
Meireles, Kalou, Drogba.
Subs: Turnbull, Luiz, Essien, Romeu, Torres, Mata, Sturridge.
Stoke: Begovic, Wilkinson, Shawcross, Huth, Wilson, Shotton, Whitehead,
Diao, Fuller, Jones, Walters.
Subs: Sorensen, Pennant, Upson, Delap, Crouch, Jerome, Palacios.
2:29: One of the stranger images I have seen today; Lionel Messi's brother brings new meaning to the term "brotherly love" after revealing a sizeable tatoo of the "little flea" on his left shoulder.
Here are the teams then for Sunderland v Liverpool and Steven Gerrard starts on the bench
Sunderland: Mignolet, Bardsley, O'Shea, Turner, Bridge, Larsson,
Colback, Gardner, McClean, Bendtner, Campbell.
Subs: Gordon, Wickham, Kilgallon, Vaughan, Meyler, Kyrgiakos,
Elmohamady.
Liverpool: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Coates, Jose Enrique, Kuyt, Henderson,
Adam, Spearing, Bellamy, Suarez.
Subs: Doni, Gerrard, Carroll, Maxi, Downing, Carragher, Flanagan.
2:22: Over to the Stadium Of Light now where Sunderland are hosting
Liverpool. Matin O'Neill is without Lee Cattermole and Stephane Sessegnon
both of whom are suspended after their antics during last weekend's derby
with Newcastle.
Steven Gerrard [bench] is back for Liverpool having missed last weekend's
defeat at Arsenal.
Cattermole and Sessegnon's absence will be a boost for Liverpool though not
enough for Jonathan Liew to back them for a win; his prediction a repeat of
the fixture earlier this season: 1-1.
2:17: Let's start our build-up at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea contest
the Premier League for the first time this season without Andre Villas-Boas.
With Roberto Di Matteo in charge the west London club are hosting Stoke City
with whom they drew 0-0 in the reverse fixture back in August. It's somewhat
appropriate that Stoke were Chelsea's first opposition under the guidance of
AVB and now their first without the Portuguese.
John Terry is set to return to action for the first time since undergoing
surgery on his knee while Ashley Cole is reportedly fit after sustaining a
heel injury against West Brom last weekend meaning a full-strength squad is
available.
Stoke meanwhile are likely to be without defender Andy Wilkinson and Rory
Delap remains a doubt. We'll know pretty soon if Tony Pulis is including
them in his starting line-up.
Here's Jonathan Liew's take on this afternoon's fixture:
"If the removal of Andre Villas Boas was intended to lift the shroud of
uncertainty over Stamford Bridge, it failed. A multitude of question marks
still abound: what of the club’s older players? Will Fernando Torres be
persevered with? Will Roberto di Matteo adopt a different approach to his
predecessor? Meanwhile, a real scrap is in prospect today against a Stoke
side capable of burgling a point or more."
Prediction: Chelsea 1 Stoke City 0
2:15: Good afternoon and welcome to Saturday's clockwatch. Four games for me to track this afternoon so sit back, relax and I'll bring you all the latest team news and whispers from around the grounds as we count down to 3pm.
