Bruce Sudano- Donna Summer Husband

A great talented singer has died, Donna Summer lost he battle to lung cancer at the age of 63. Donna is survived by  her daughters Mimi Sommer, Amanda and Brooklyn Sudano and her beloved husband Bruce Sudano.

I grew up with Donna Summer’s songs,  I might have been just a baby when she became famous in the 80’s, but  we all know her songs continue to be on the radio, movies and people continue to sing and dance to her songs, my sister still has her Donna Summer Greatest Hits album which I will definitely steal from her.

It was so sad to hear about her lung cancer battle that ultimately killed her on May 17th. Donna was known as the Queen of Disco, her real name was LaDonna Adrian Gaines, her last name Summer came when she got married to her first husband was Helmuth Sommer who she met while both starred in Godspell in 1971, they got married two years later, she decided to take his name with a minor spelling change. Their daughter Mimi Sommer was born that same year, and they split up in 1975.

Donna then had a brief relationship with German pianists Peter Muhldorfer, he couldn’t handle the attention she received and Donna said he got  violent at times, his visa was revoked and  got his pianist butt back to Germany.

Love came to her life in 1978 while she was working in Heaven Knows along Joe “Bean” Esposito, Eddie Hokenson and Bruce Sudano  member of the music group Brooklyn Dreams  , Donna felt in love with Bruce Sudano

They got married on July 16, 1980, their first daughter together Brooklyn (in Bruce’s band honor)was born on January 5th, 1981 and Amanda their youngest was born on August 2nd. 1982. When they were not singing together (Bruce would be a back singer at Donna’s concerts) they would be at their home just outside Nashville.

63 year-old Bruce Charles Sudano from Brooklyn began his career with Pepe Cardona and Sandy Toder, Woody Wilson,  John Parisio, Ron Pell and Vito Albano  in the 70’s band Alive N Kickin, after he left  and in 1977 co-funded Brooklyn Dreams. After the band split up in 1980, Sudano continued his solo career.

In 2003 he released Rainy Day Soul the following year he was warded  AC Artist of the Year at the New Music Weekly’s (NMW) Awards. Life and the Romantic his second album was released in 2009, and  the song Wedding Day reached #1 at NMW’s AC chart for 9 whole weeks, the following year  he won the Song of the Year award at the 2010 NMW Awards.
