A shocking story came a year ago when Senthooran Kanagasingham known as Nina pushed his solicitor Sonia Burgess under a train, Sonia who is fact was a guy named David Burgess.

Born on 25 September 1947 Sonia Burgess was described as a gender variant, raised in Castleford, in West Yorkshire by her mother, her father left her, her mother and sister Ros when she was still a child. Still living as a man known as David studied law at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge where he got his second law degree in 1969. Sometime in the early 80’s he met Youdon Lhamo a Tibetan refugee nurse with whom Burgess got married in 1985, they had two children together a boy Tenzin and their daughter, Kusang later on they adopted Lhamo’s niece Dechen. David told his wife about him been transgender and although it was difficult they stayed married for 20 years, his son Tenzin lives in Czech Republic where he works as an English teacher, Dechen and Kusant a lawyer live in Canada. Burgess and his wife divorce in 2005 around the time he arrived from Tibet where he spend a year.




At the time of his death David or Sonia was living in her Soho flat in Shaftesbury Avenue, her friends said Sonia Burguess was a calm, kind middle age woman who always tried to help others, her former colleagues who described her still as David Burgess said he was one of the most skillful, hard working, fearless and talented immigration lawyers of his generation.
In 1975 Sonia or David Burgess co-funded his firm Winstanley Burgess with his partner Robert Winstanley. Mr. Winstanley left the firm in 1996 when he was appointed Circuit judge. David on the other hand continued the labor he had been doing for 20 years he was just the best with refugee cases that included Sri Lankan Viraj Mendi.

“If you met him, he was a very gently spoken person,” says Robert Winstanley. “But there was iron in the soul.
Burgess’s firm shut down in September 2003, he said he just burn out physically and emotional. His next step in law took him as David Burgess to work at Luqmani Thompson in London and for the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, in his personal life David Burgess would be Sonia Burgess.
35 year-old Senthooran Kanagasingham from Sri Lanka, he moved to the UK 11 years ago, where he resided in Cricklewood, North London. According to media it was a bar in 2009 that Senthooran met 63 year-old Sonia Burgess a human rights solicitor who used to be a man named David Burgess. Senthooran Kanagasingham who was undergoing sex change treatment and call himself Nina was becoming psychotic and was imploding probably was the side effects of the hormones he was taking or to the fact that according to Nina he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. On October 25th, 2010 the day Sonia was killed she went with Senthooran Kanagasingham to visit a surgery in Cricklewood it was there that Sonia told doctors about her concerns over where Kanagasingham’s mental health. that made Senthooran Kanagasingham furious at Sonia, on their way back while they were at the train station he pushed Sonia from the back, the driver pushed the brakes as soon as he saw Sonia falling, but it was impossible to stop before a whole cart passed along the platform. Sonia Burgess funeral took place on November 17th, at St Martin-in-the-Fields.
Meanwhile Nina or was send to Senthooran Kanagasingham sentenced to life in prison, send to a mental health hospital and required to take medication, recently his doctor said he no longer requires hospitalization. The Judge sentenced Senthooran Kanagasingham to seven years in jail.
